Barter collab: how to pay an influencer with your product

Updated 6 November 2026

A barter collab means you give a creator your product or service, and they post about it instead of being paid in money. It suits shops and restaurants with something a creator would really use. Agree on what they will post and by when before you hand anything over.

Which businesses it suits

Barter works when your product is something the creator would want anyway and would show well on camera. Clothes, sarees, jewellery, skincare, food and salon services are good examples. It is harder when your product is very cheap or has nothing to show.

Agree these things first

Most barter trouble starts with a chat message that said "post something nice". Before you send the item, agree on:

  • What the creator will post, and where: a reel, a video, a story
  • The date it will be posted by
  • The value of the item
  • Whether you can use the video in your own ads
  • What happens if the post doesn't go up

Product only, or product plus money

Not every creator will work for a product alone, especially if it costs less than the work of making the video. Offering a product plus some money can get you a yes from a creator who would turn down barter alone.

How barter works on ProPop

Creators who accept barter show "Open to barter" on their profile. Some set a minimum item value, so check that first. You send an offer with your product as the payment, or your product plus money. You can hand the item over at your shop or send it by courier.

Before you ship, the creator signs an agreement with a one-time code: they will post by the agreed date, or return the item within 7 days at their own cost.

If the date passes, there are 3 days of grace. After that you can give one extension of up to 7 days, ask for the item back, or close the deal as not delivered. A creator who neither posts nor returns the item has barter paused on their account until ProPop reviews it.

Common questions

Can I use the creator's video in my own ads?

On a ProPop barter collab, you get the right to use the video in your own ads for 365 days.

What if the creator takes the product and never posts?

Outside a platform there is little you can do beyond asking. On ProPop the creator has signed an agreement to post or return the item within 7 days at their own cost, and their barter is paused if they do neither.

Is a post in exchange for a free product an ad?

Yes. In India a free product counts the same as a payment, so the creator should mark the post as an ad.
